MENOPAUSE :-
Definition:
The menopause occurs when a woman’s periods finish and is only diagnosed with certainty when a woman has
not had a period for 12 months. The average age of the menopause in the India is 47 years. It is often
accompanied by a variety of symptoms in the lead up to the menopause
Symptoms:
• Irregular periods
• Dry skin
• Headaches
• Hot flushes or sweats
• Vaginal dryness or soreness
• Changes in bladder function
• Sleep disturbance
• Memory loss
• Mood change
Women vary in how they experience the physical and psychological changes of the menopause, whilst for some
women it passes with minimal symptoms, for others, the impact on quality of life can be significant.
Treatment:
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is the common treatment for the menopause symptoms, but is worth
considering carefully.
The decision ‘to take or not to take’ HRT is complex and the conflicting evidence and advice given regarding its
